She-Ra, Princess of Power First-Ever Barbie Doll for 40th Anniversary (Exclusive)

She-Ra, Princess of Power, is getting her first-ever Barbie doll in celebration of her 40th year of fighting evil and saving the day. Mattel shares exclusively with PEOPLE that the nostalgic hero’s doll will hit shelves on Wednesday, June 18.

The twin sister of Masters of the Universe protagonist He-Man was first introduced in He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword in 1995. She went on to head her own animated series, She-Ra, Princess of Power, which ran from 1985 to 1986.

The doll proves that one can be ultra-stylish while defending Etheria! Included are all of She-Ra’s signature accessories — a satiny white dress, gold boots, winged headpiece and flowing red cape, plus her Sword of Protection — celebrating the legendary heroine’s place as a novel princess and now a member of the Barbie Universe.

In September 2021, Variety reported that a live-action She-Ra project was in development at Amazon, with DreamWorks Animation serving as executive producer. Though Dreamworks Animations produced She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, an animated Netflix reboot that ran from 2018 to 2020, the live-action project is unrelated to the animated series.

Last October, it was revealed that Heidi Schreck signed onto the project as a writer and executive producer. The current logline for the live-action series, which will be the first for the character, describes “an epic fantasy series about an orphaned young woman who leads a revolution to save her planet from annihilation.”
