Plot: In 1864 during the New Zealand Wars, Haki—a Māori-European teenager fighting for the British— is captured by the Māori resistance. During captivity he befriends Kopu, a young girl believed to be a medium for the Māori war god. As he embraces their culture, they lead their people in a desperate stand at the Battle of Ōrākau, vastly outnumbered but determined to defend their land and identity.
