Matthias runs a “rent-a-friend” service, where he adopts fictional roles — the perfect son, the enlightened boyfriend, a pilot dad — to satisfy the social needs of his wealthy clients. Though he masters these performative lives, his personal identity begins to fracture as his relationships suffer and the boundaries between his true self and his roles blur.
